Built-Up Roofing (BUR) is one of the oldest, most reliable
roofing systems for commercial buildings with low-slope
roof structures. Introduced in the 1840s, BUR systems
are often referred to as “tar and gravel” roofs. Typically,
BUR systems include several layers (or plies) of bitumen-saturated
fiberglass felt, a top coating of asphalt and
aggregate (gravel) or a granular-surfaced cap sheet.
BUR systems have stood the test of time — earning a great reputation
among building owners, property managers, architects, engineers
and specifiers, as well as roofing manufacturers and contractors. The
original cost of a BUR system may be slightly higher than other lowslope
applications, but when you consider its durability and longevity, it’s
money well spent.
At R.D. Bean, Inc. we’ve been installing BUR systems for over 40 years,
using the latest equipment and technology. To discuss your next Built-Up
Roofing project, contact us at 1-800-242-8736 or send us an e-mail. |
